What Does it Cover?
Under your average cycle insurance policy if you needed to claim for the theft of your bike and it wasn’t locked up securely, you’re claim most likely wouldn’t be successful. However, triathlons are strange environments where competitors have to leave their bikes unattended and unlocked for long periods of time in the transition area whilst they compete in the swimming and running disciplines which can leave them exposed to theft, this is where competition cover offers you that protection
Also, with the increased speed and harsher terrain of a competition, the risk of accidental damage to your bike will be increased, therefore this is another reason why this cover needs to be selected.
Finally some insurers will even include some cover to reimburse your entry fee if the event is cancelled or you cannot attend the event due to illness or injury.
No policy is the same, so it’s important that you check exactly what is included in the insurers policy wording.
Is it Always Available?
In a word, no. Competition cover is not always available, some insurers don’t offer it at all, so if it’s something that you think you’ll need, then double check the policy wording and inclusions before you purchase.
